HumANist society of New Mexico
HSNM Events Calendar
Note new time: 6:30 pm
Codenames is a fun 2-team word game that's a bit like Password but much more interesting and enjoyable for both the game itself as well as social interaction with teammates. Years ago I used to play the table-top version but playing on the website is much better! You can play using your computer or your phone.
Time: 6:30 pm MT
Players that are new to Codenames are very welcome. You can take a look at it here: codenames.game But it's much easier to learn by doing and we're happy to teach.
We have 5 committed Codenamers already. The minimum to play is 4 (2 per team). So we'd like more players! We hope to reach at least 3 per team (total of 6).
To join us, here is the link to our Google Meet: https://meet.google.com/izo-rfpw-cwq
While we're playing, we use Google Meet to communicate.
If you're new to Google Meet, I recommend spending about 10 minutes ahead of start time to prepare and test your microphone and speakers. Video isn't needed.
Join my invitation email list to be invited by email each week as a reminder a few hours before play time. In it will be a link to the Google Meet as well as other info.
To be added to the email invitation list, send a request to my email address: gstelle@gmail.com
The game itself changes each week. So a link to the game will be in a follow-up email (if you receive my invitation emails) as well as in Chat of Google Meet.
Chat is Google Meet's in-call messaging feature. Once you're in Google Meet, look for the button at bottom right of screen that looks like a little rectangle with horizontal lines and says "Chat with everyone" when you point to it. Then tap on the link that starts with "Codenames.game..."

Join Derek Wallentinsen on this exciting, scenic adventure for humanists who are outdoors lovers.
RSVP: wallythered@gmail.com
Please let me know if you are going. Keep me informed if your plans change so I know what to expect on the day of the hike. Promise of inclement weather will cancel this adventure; I’ll send a message to people who wanted to go if this happens.
MEETING PLACE: We’ll carpool from Target at Paseo del Norte and I-25. Look for me and my Frontier pickup Red Rover in the NW part of the parking lot. It is about 140 miles round trip.
The Continental Divide Trail runs from Canada to Mexico and is 3,100 miles long. The southern part of the CDT traverses New Mexico. We’ll be hiking a section of the trail in the Rio Puerco Basin west of Albuquerque, along the dramatic rim of Mesa San Luis, with great landscape views east towards the Jemez and south towards the volcanic necks around and including Cabezon.
HIKING ADVENTURE: A moderate hike recommended for those used to longer desert hikes. Our outing will explore the CDT mainly along the rim of smaller mesas. The approximately 5-mile route stays about the same elevation. Bring sun protection, food for a trail lunch and plenty of water. We’ll be back out mid-afternoon.
While there may be hiking dispersion due to different hiking speeds, we will stop now and then to allow catch-up.
PERSONAL: Please bring sunglasses and sunscreen and a brimmed hat and plenty of water, food and salty snacks. Each hiker will be expected to wear appropriate hiking apparel. Seasonal layers clothing is a must. This includes proper footwear - boots - and trekking poles. Each person participates in this adventure/hike at their own risk. As always everyone is responsible for their own safety and that of their property.
SOCIAL: Optional activity post hike, perhaps in Bernalillo or back in Burque. I’m open to suggestions.
ABOUT DEREK: Besides being a humanist, Derek Wallentinsen is also a naturalist who’s hiked New Mexico trails since childhood, when his dad took him along for trips afoot in the Pecos Wilderness. More recently, he regularly did 1000 miles of trail roves a year with the National Park Service before retiring in 2021. He is a hike leader, former vice president and long-time New Mexico Mountain Club member. His current favorite t-shirt: “All who wander are not lost. Some are looking for cool rocks.”
Join the Unholy Rollers the third Wednesday of every month at Silva Lanes on Eubank. Just show up at the front desk and look human. A bowling angel will find you and direct you to Bowling Salvation! Approximate cost: $10-13. No skill required. IT'S BOWLING!
Important Note:
To avoid noisy fellow pub-goers, I'm moving this to the Third Wednesday of the month. Start time is 3:30 pm.
Discuss real-life practical philosophical stuff with other humanists over a beer or two.
Bounce ideas about life off each other. Or discuss issues you're currently dealing with. We can throw in a bit of phsychology too. Meant to be an enjoyable time sharing each other's points of view. Potentially enlightening!
Come with a topic you'd like to talk about or just join the conversation. Religion and politics are ok if pertinent, objective and limited. An academic perspective, if you have one, can add to the topic being discussed. After all philosophical stories are basically timeless and about people.
Location: Quarter Celtic Brewpub, 1100 San Mateo Boulevard NE· Albuquerque
We could grab a table either inside or out on the patio. Order a meal is fine too. They have good Irish food. Most likely we'll always meet at Quarter Celtic. But maybe try other places in the future.

Join us to discuss a topic chosen the month prior. You don't have to research the topic ahead of time, but some members like to stretch their awareness of the topic ahead of time. And feel free to suggest a topic for the following month.
Members and their guests are invited to the Humanist Society of New Mexico's HumanLight Potluck dinner. Marie Trigg is hosting us, and her address will be provided to people who register for the event.
If you want to bring a guest(s), enter their name(s) on the registration form. You’ll also see a space on the registration form to enter what food you plan to bring. Please respond as soon as you know you will attend.
Instead of exchanging gifts, the program for the evening will be a mosaic of shared talents and interests. If you like, please share something you can do or have created, something that touches your heart, or something that has significance to you. We strengthen our community when we know more and learn to care deeply for one another. As shown last year, the variety of presentations is also a lot of fun!
Contact Charlene Baker at 505-350-2436 or huftrot@gmail.com if you have questions or problems registering.
The minimum to play is 4 (2 per team). So we'd like more players! We hope to reach at least 3 per team (total of 6).
