HUMANIST SPEAKER SERIES: 'Leaving Religion' Panel Discussion

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC: 

Instead of a speaker, we’re trying something different this month -- a  moderated panel discussion featuring four of our members who will discuss why and how they left organized religion. 

We think it’s a topic that could draw a large audience, but the goal isn’t to promote humanism. We simply want to support people who, like some of our members, have faced tough challenges as they question—and sometimes break from—the faith or church they grew up in.

Thanks to members and panelists Spencer Bond, Amber Pechin, Jay Rogers and Terry Sloan for their willingness to share their stories and answer questions from the audience.

And a special thank you to Brian Taylor for agreeing to moderate the discussion. Several of our members recommended Brian for this assignment. For 30 years, Brian was the senior priest at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Albuquerque. Since retirement, Brian has devoted himself fully to Zen study and practice. He and his wife Susanna live in Corrales, where he facilitates and teaches a weekly zazen meditation group grounded in the Soto Zen tradition.
