  • 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

THIS TALK WILL BE RESCHEDULED.

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC:

Of all the industries undergoing massive changes, newspapers and news gathering are among the most visible and important. We’ll hear firsthand about those changes and what’s happening with journalism across the state from the first speaker in our Humanist Speaker Series in 2026.

Jay Newton-Small is the executive editor and vice president of the Albuquerque Journal. Before joining the paper in late 2024, she authored the 2016 best-seller, “Broad Influence: How Women are Changing the Way America Works.” She served as a Washington correspondent for TIME Magazine and Bloomberg News, and founded MemoryWell, a national network of 1,000 writers who tell the life stories of seniors to help improve their care. She wrote nearly a dozen cover stories for TIME and served as the magazine’s London and Middle East bureau chief. Jay has an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University and undergraduate degrees in International Relations and Art History from Tufts University.
