 2026 All-Members' Annual Meeting

October 17: All-Members Meeting and Leadership Election

Share your thoughts and your vote. The Annual All-Members meeting, at the International District Library, takes place October 17, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm.

Officers and Board of Directors members will update members on the organization’s status and plans for the coming year. Following that, members will elect new officers and board members to serve two-year terms (2027-28). Members will also vote on proposed bylaw revisions.

Peter Dickinson: Candidate for President

Pete is the organization’s current president and has overseen a near-doubling in membership over the past two years.

Pete moved to Albuquerque in 2023, after retiring from a 40-year career in software engineering, which took him from the West Coast to the East Coast and back again. He has been glad to find an active and welcoming group of like-minded freethinkers at Humanists New Mexico.

Pete is the proud father of two sons and a daughter, each building a unique and successful life in various places across the US. In retirement, Pete continues to pursue his lifelong interest in science and to expand his understanding of himself and his fellow humans through the study of history, psychology, politics and religion. He is also learning how to grow plants in a hot and dry climate, and how to capture an interesting photograph, among other things.

Jay Rogers: Candidate for Vice President

Raised in Indiana, the son of an evangelical minister and a schoolteacher/librarian, Jay was on track to follow his father to the pulpit. Then he read the Bible and became an atheist. He now identifies primarily as a Humanist. Jay is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army, father, husband and friend to anyone who wants to be. Jay values kindness and curiosity as the highest virtues in life. Jay was a speaker in our Humanist Speaker Series this year and participated on our recent “Leaving Religion” panel.

Paul Babb: Candidate for Member-at-Large

Paul has served as vice president for the past two years and leads the Communications committee, which oversees our website, publicity and member communications. He leads our bowling and neuroscience discussion groups and co-leads the Great Decisions foreign policy discussions. He is a self-employed business writer who moved from Houston to Albuquerque in 2020. A graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, he discovered Humanism in 2011. Paul stays busy traveling, golfing, cycling, bowling, listening to Americana music, and occasionally taking advice from his adult children.

JayDe Donnelly: Candidate for Treasurer

JayDe is currently on the Board as a member-at-large. JayDe’s path to humanism grew directly out of his life experience. In parochial school, he concluded he could no longer embrace theistic belief—reporting that the teachings didn’t square with common sense or with what he saw in the world. The gap between what practicing Catholics were taught and how they lived made a nonsecular worldview impossible for JayDe to accept.

That lack of belief became harder to navigate years later, when he joined a 12-step group built around belief in a higher power—for most people there, the Christian God. “I tried ‘fake it till you make it’ for years, but no amount of trying could produce a belief in a god that wasn't there,” he says.

Professionally, JayDe worked as an Excel and database programmer and has collaborated on IT budgets for Fairview Behavioral and the Minneapolis local of the Air Line Pilots Association. “When the treasurer position needed a candidate, I stepped up because I believe our finances deserve careful attention,” explains JayDe.

Terrence Sloan, MD: Candidate for Member-at-Large

Dr. Sloan has served in numerous positions with Humanists New Mexico, including president and vice president. He is a current board member. Terry did his undergraduate work at Adams State College in Colorado (BS in Chemistry), attended medical school at the University of Colorado, and trained in Internal Medicine at UCLA and the University of New Mexico. He served Native Americans for 41 years in the Indian Health Service (a single-payer health system) and is retired. He is a member of the American Humanist Association and the Committee of Skeptical Inquiry.

Kenny Jones: Candidate for Secretary

Kenny grew up in Houston and raised his family there. He was a trial lawyer for 13 years before becoming an 8th-grade language arts teacher for the next 20 years. When he retired from teaching, he went mobile, traveling the country for several years before landing in Albuquerque in 2020.

“I’ve found a wonder-filled marriage to a retired Presbyterian minister that provides intense satisfaction. I live a quiet and fulfilling life and enjoy cooking, regular exercise and part-time adventuring,” he says

Although raised a Southern Baptist, Kenny has identified as a Unitarian Universalist Secular Humanist since the mid-80s.

In Albuquerque, he has been active in social justice efforts with the First Unitarian Church, the Democratic Socialists of America, and most recently, the Democratic Party of New Mexico and Bernalillo County as a Precinct Chair. During his many years as an active member of Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston, he served as Board Secretary for about four years until becoming its president.

Marie Trigg, Candidate for Member-at-Large

Marie is a born-and-raised New Mexican with a master’s degree in health care administration. Her career in healthcare ranged from hospital staffing to numerous years of owning and operating healthcare institutions. Marie has served on many boards in Albuquerque and other locations throughout her career. She discovered Humanists New Mexico in 2025 and has enjoyed meeting like-minded people with interesting viewpoints. She enjoys studying New Mexico’s history, hiking, reading, and teaching Pilates.
